Aculight to Investigate Laser Technologies for USAF

SEPTEMBER 5, 2002, 11:30EDT
BOTHELL, Wash., Aculight Corporation, a developer of innovative laser technologies, announced the award of an 18-month, $2.3 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base to investigate new semiconductor and fiber laser technologies.

Aculight's research will focus on improving the optical characteristics of semiconductor and fiber lasers. Current state-of-the-art laser products are not suitable for some Air Force applications and Aculight's new technology is expected to provide substantial improvements in performance of certain types of lasers.

The research work includes study of new optical methods and fabrication of prototype devices. Aculight believes the technology developed under this contract could lead to advances in other non-defense related laser applications, including materials processing.

Aculight Corporation develops innovative laser technologies for medical, industrial, and national defense applications. Founded in 1993, Aculight has 35 employees at its headquarters in Bothell, Washington.
