General Dynamics receives $8.9 million Navy contract to improve surface ship sonar systems

ARLINGTON, Va., April 7, 2004. The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, an $8.9 million contract modification to develop improvements to the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 surface ship sonar system.

The contract calls for system engineering, software engineering, integration and test activities to field sonar technologies in U.S. and Allied surface ships. Technologies in this program include automated torpedo detection, sonar performance prediction, active sonar, active displays and integrated training and logistics methodologies.

The Navy awarded the original contract in September 2001 to Digital Systems Resources Inc., which was acquired by General Dynamics in September 2003. This modification, awarded on April 5, 2004, brings the total value of the contract to $21.6 million.
Work will be performed in Fairfax, Va., and Anaheim, Calif., and is expected to be completed by May 2005. The contract supports the Surface Ship Undersea Warfare Combat System Program Office of the Naval Sea Systems Command.
