ATK to provide proximity sensors for fighter-bomber munitions
ROCKET CENTER, W.Va., 9 June 2005. U.S. Air Force officials are looking to ATK Tactical Systems Co. LLC in Rocket Center, W.Va., to provide a nose-mounted radio frequency proximity sensor used on M117 and MK-80 series general-purpose bombs and on the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM).
The proximity sensor is called the DSU-33B/B, and is qualified for several U.S. Navy, Marine Corps., Air Force, and foreign fighter-bomber aircraft.
ATK will do the work under terms of a $14.5 million contract modification from the Air Force Air-to-Ground Munitions Systems Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The contract number is F08635-02-C-0049, P00015.
ATK will build and deliver 12,675 additional DSU-33B/B proximity sensors and cables for the Navy and 350 sensors and cables, 20 D-2 trainers and 6 D-5 trainers for foreign military sales.
The sensor is qualified for use on the Navy and Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet strike-fighter, the Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt close-air-support aircraft, the F-15 Eagle fighter-bomber, the F-16 Falcon fighter-bomber, the F/A-22 Raptor fighter-bomber, the B-52 bomber, and the B-2 bomber.
