Office of Naval Research funds communication system for UAVs

LANCASTER, Pa., 22 July 2005. Herley Industries, Inc. announced today that its subsidiary Innovative Concepts, Inc. had received a contract award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) of approximately $1 million.

Innovative Concepts' goal is to provide communications systems to support unmanned, unattended and untethered drones organized in "swarms" on the ground, in the air, and on the water to meet the requirements of combat zone missions.

So engineers at Innovative Concepts will transition the ONR OpenMesh system from ad-hoc routing protocols and high-speed connectivity into robust and reliable systems comprising radio technology, routing algorithms, military mission system specifications, and "swarm" capabilities.
