Lockheed Martin to install new sensors in Navy unmanned undersea vehicle

September 2, 2005

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., 2 Sept. 2005. Engineers at the Lockheed Martin Corp. Maritime Systems & Sensors segment in Riviera Beach, Fla., are integrating new sensors into a U.S. Navy unmanned underwater vehicle.

Lockheed Martin is installing the Littoral Precision Underwater Mapping Array (LPUMA) sensor into the Advanced Development Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (ADUUV).

Lockheed Martin is doing the work under terms of a $10.6 million contract modification awarded Sept. 1 from the Naval Air Systems Command in Washington. The contract number is N00024-03-C-6308.

The integration of the LPUMA sensor into the ADUUV will provide an asset more suitable for use in fleet exercises and experiments, as well as for future Navy unmanned undersea vehicle risk reduction efforts, Navy officials say.

Work will be in Riviera Beach, Fla., and will be finished by September 2007.
