LITITZ, Pa., 19 Jan. 2006. Sechan Electronics Inc. of Lititz, Pa., won a $65 million U.S. Army contract to design and build the Digital Topographic Support System�Light (DTSS-L), company officials announced Jan. 19.

The DTSS-L is an enclosed shelter mounted on a humvee to provide digital terrain and analysis for the intelligence preparation of the battlefield (IPB) -- a systematic way to analyze weather, the enemy, and terrain to help determine enemy capabilities, vulnerabilities, and probable courses of action.

The system accepts data from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and other sources as maps, charts, weather forecasts or reports, climate summaries, terrain studies, and photography.

The DTSS-L also process data into usable terrain maps, and connects digital mapping assets in the field through fiber optic communications networks, such as Tactical Operations Center LAN, Command Post Local Area Network the common DTSS LAN (shelter-to-shelter), and the Army Battle Command Systems.
