March 22, 2006

BILLERICA, Mass., 22 March 2006. American Science and Engineering Inc., a leader in X-ray detection technology, has received a $1.9 million order. A client in the Asia Pacific region has ordered multiple Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV); the agreement also includes operator training, service, and warranty.

"This key Asia Pacific client will deploy multiple ZBVs at port and border crossings to combat trade fraud and detect contraband," Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO.

American Science and Engineering Inc. company has "Worldwide, ZBV orders are decisively fulfilling the requirements of various government agencies, including Customs and police agencies and military force protection."

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van.

The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections.

The system enables one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
