Ericsson contributes technology to solution for SBInet

PLANO, Texas, 2 June 2006. America's Border Security Group, a strategic partnership led by Ericsson Inc. of Plano, Texas, has unveiled a border protection system to address the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Secure Border Initiative (SBInet). Based on commercial high-speed mobile broadband technology and IP applications, the system integrates existing personnel, infrastructure, and technology into an SBInet solution for efficient, transparent communications for people and sensors.

America's Border Security Group, a strategic partnership led by Ericsson Inc. of Plano, Texas, has unveiled a border protection system to address the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Secure Border Initiative (SBInet). Based on commercial high-speed mobile broadband technology and IP applications, the system integrates existing personnel, infrastructure, and technology into an SBInet solution for fast, efficient and transparent communications for people and sensors.

The ABSG team led by Ericsson Inc. includes Computer Sciences Corporation; Fluor Corporation; SYColeman Corporation, a division of L3 Communications; MTC Technologies; CAMBER Corporation; AEP Networks Inc.; Texas A&M University; and The University of Texas at Austin.

Ericsson's Border and Area Security (EBAS) system is operational in the European Union (EU) as part of the EU's Schengen secure border surveillance project.

"Deterrence is key to winning the SBInet mission, and effective, efficient and transparent communications is the key to deterrence," says Douglas Smith, vice president and general manager of Ericsson Inc.'s Government Solutions group.

Ericsson and its ABSG member companies are government partners, involved in hundreds of government and commercial contracts.

The team is delivering border control, air, and coastal surveillance, communications solutions, tactical infrastructure, and national and international security operations and facility support.
