Draper Lab to upgrade Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile guidance systems

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., 25 Nov. 2006. Engineers at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, Mass., are upgrading the Mk 6 guidance system of the Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile under terms of a $195.8 million U.S. Navy contract.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., 25 Nov. 2006. Engineers at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, Mass., are upgrading the Mk 6 guidance system of the Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile under terms of a $195.8 million U.S. Navy contract.

Draper Lab experts will repair and recertify Mk 6 guidance systems, including pendulous integrating gyroscopic accelerometers, inertial measurement units, electronic assemblies, inertial measurement unit electronics, as well as provide repair parts and test equipment maintenance under terms of the contract awarded Nov. 22 from the U.S. Strategic Systems Program in Arlington, Va. The contract number is N00030-07-C-0001.

The Draper Lab also will provide tactical engineering support for the U.S. and United Kingdom Mk 6 guidance system and study ways to reduce life-cycle cost and improve performance of the Fleet Ballistic Missile Guidance System program;

Draper Lab experts also will get help from Ballistic Missile Guidance System program personnel in studies involving the Guidance Application Program and the Radiation Hardened Application Program.

Work will be in Cambridge, Mass.; Pittsfield, Mass.; Andover, Mass.; El Segundo, Calif.; Clearwater, Fla.; and Woodland Hills, Calif., and will be finished next September.
