Israeli company Elop to provide portable designator/rangefinder to German military

November 9, 2006

REHOVOT, Israel, 9 Nov. 2006. Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop Ltd. in Rehovot, Israel, will supply portable lightweight designator/rangefinders (PLDRs) and the Coral thermal imager to the German armed forces under terms of a $5 million order.

Individual soldiers can carry Elop's compact and lightweight PLDR, yet the device is rugged enough to meet harsh environmental conditions, Elop officials say.

The designator system has several advanced features including a built-in tactical computer for target location calculations, an integrated spot camera, and remote data transmission capability.

Leaders of the U.S. Marine Corps have selected a similar version of the PLDR. "Elop's laser designators and systems for land, air and naval applications are providing advanced solutions for modern day battlefield needs," says Elop General Manager Haim Rousso.

Elop is a subsidiary of Elbit Systems in Haifa, Israel. The company provides electro-optic systems and products for applications such as observations and surveillance stabilized payloads

Elop is involved in remote sensing, space systems, airborne reconnaissance, ground integrated sights, robotic systems, laser systems, thermal imaging, displays, and electro-optics counter-measures.
