Input identifies more than $123 billion federal technology opportunities for 2008

November 6, 2007

RESTON, Va., 6 Nov. 2007. The Federal Government's top technology opportunities for open-market competition in fiscal year 2008 (FY 2008) are valued at $123 billion, according to reports released by Input. The top 20 overall FY 2008 federal opportunities indentified a combined value of more than $119 billion, not including an additional $4.4 billion in top 10 anticipated small business set-aside procurements.

The majority of the large procurements coming out of FY 2008 will be recompeted programs. "Coupled with an increasingly strong-willed Congress, continued war spending, and the Bush Administration entering into its lame duck phase, FY 2008 is shaping up to be a year of the status quo," says Arash Ardalan, senior federal analyst for Input. "Although there is limited scope expansion given the current appropriations environment, remaining growth segments throughout the market include security, information sharing, and infrastructure consolidation."

"Although overall IT spending may be slowing, specific market segments continue to expand," says Jaime Tomkins, senior federal analyst. "While agencies continue to struggle freeing up steady state dollars to invest in new projects, vendors looking to expand market presence should focus on these growth segments."
