Toronto Airports Authority harnesses Bentley Geospatial Server, Oracle Spatial

December 26, 2007

EXTON, Pa., 26 Dec. 2007. Bentley Systems Inc. revealed that Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has chosen Oracle Spatial integrated with Bentley Geospatial Server, including ProjectWise Connector for Oracle, to store, edit, and maintain spatial data used in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Toronto Pearson International Airport. The diverse data will reside in an enterprise-wide geospatial database on Oracle Database 10g Release 2.

GTAA, a long-time user of Bentley products, is responsible for all building, site, and utility information for Toronto Pearson's expanding facilities. The staff of its Technical Data Center (TDC), which serves as the organization's central data custodian, investigates new advances that could make GTAA's substantial spatial datastores more readily available to end users and provide them with richer content.

The new system helps GTAA streamline workflows and integrate spatial information from across the entire enterprise. Bentley's XML Feature Modeling capabilities allow GTAA data editors to perform real-time updates in the field using tablet PCs loaded with a MicroStation-based GIS application.

The Bentley Geospatial Server brokers geospatial data review/approval workflows to update Oracle Database and manages access to, and the editing of, drawings in DGN, DWG, TIF, and PDF formats. Its ProjectWise Connector for Oracle enables it to use the full capabilities of Oracle Spatial.
