DRS Tactical Systems Inc. in Melbourne, Fla., is introducing the rugged Armor convertible notebook and the Armor tablet PC mobile computers for situational awareness, protecting valuable data, and/or increasing worker efficiency in government and industrial applications.

The computers have data protection technology, "anywhere" connectivity, and sunlight-readable display options.

Armor mobile computers are built to MIL-STD-810F for resistance to shock and vibration. They use Intel microprocessors and offer communications options like integrated Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and a PCMCIA slot. Armor tablets and convertible notebooks weight 5.2 pounds.

Armor C12 convertible notebook has a die-cast magnesium alloy case, and has been tested for drop-shock, moisture, temperature extremes, and resistance to dust and vibration. It has a 12.1-inch outdoor-viewable touch-screen display that transforms from a tablet-style computer to a compact notebook with a full-size keyboard.

The Armor X10 tablet has an aluminum DuraCase chassis with ShutOut sealing technology that meets IP 66 level protection from dust, dirt, water, and temperature extremes. The tablet offers no-flap input connections and tool-free, hot-swappable battery access, and is available in touch screen and passive pen versions. It has a 10.4-inch LCD monitor backlight for indoor and outdoor viewability.
