Marine Corps G/ATOR radar system is early design-in win for VPX embedded computers

LEESBURG, Va., 10 March 2008. Curtiss-Wright Embedded Computing in Leesburg, Va., is providing the U.S. Marine Corps with radar signal-processing subsystems based on the VPX high-speed serial networking fabric under terms of a $4.3 million contract from Northrop Grumman Corp. Electronic Systems segment in Baltimore.

Northrop Grumman is using Curtiss-Wright's VPX-based embedded computers for the Marine Corps Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar program, otherwise known as G/ATOR. Deliveries will be in 2010.

Curtiss-Wright will supply Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems with a rugged air-flow-through radar processing subsystem, which uses VPX single-board computers and other open-architecture standards and software for the G/ATOR processor.
e designed and manufactured at Curtiss-Wright's motion-control facility in San Diego, and will include the latest digital signal processing (DSP), field programmable gate array (FPGA) and single board computer products from the company's Leesburg, Va., and Ottawa locations.

"Our high density digital signal processing products and optimized software tools are ideal, cost-effective building blocks for this important multi-mission expeditionary radar system," says Martin R. Benante, chairman and chief executive officer of Curtiss-Wright Corp. in Roseland, N.J.

The Humvee-mounted G/ATOR uses active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar to detect and track aircraft, cruise-missiles, and ground weapons, as well as to provide traffic control.

The G/ATOR team, led by Northrop Grumman, includes Curtiss-Wright, Sensis Corp. in East Syracuse, N.Y.; , CEA Technologies Inc. in Colorado Springs, Colo., Techrizon LLC in Lawton, Okla., and Caterpillar Logistics in Morton, Ill.
