TUCSON, Ariz., 17 July 2008. Aeroflex Inc. announced the acquisition of Gaisler Research AB, a privately held company, located in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Company officials made the announcement at the 2008 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference, in Tucson, Ariz., at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort.

Via the acquisition Aeroflex gains ownership of Gaisler's IP cores and development tools for
commercial and aerospace embedded processors based on the SPARC architecture. Gaisler's flagship product is the LEON synthesizable processor which includes a full development environment and a library of IP support cores (GRLIB).

"This strategic acquisition provides Aeroflex with immediate improvement and synergy in our IP, software, and microprocessor design expertise, product solutions and technology roadmaps," says John Buyko, president of Aeroflex Microelectronic Solutions. "The Gaisler portfolio will provide significant complimentary enhancements to our existing portfolio."

Aeroflex Colorado Springs has developed products based on this processor in the past and now becomes a one-stop shop for hardware, software and software support, says Tony Jordan, product line manager at Aeroflex Colorado Springs. Gaisler will operate as a subsidiary of Aeroflex Colorado Springs.

The LEON processor architecture provides designers with a flexible a design environment for customization to individual requirements. Gaisler has made significant in-roads into European markets and has in-house design facilities for microprocessor, ASIC and field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based designs, Aeroflex officials say.
