e2v's new data converters exceed 2.2 giga-samples per second

September 29, 2008

GRENOBLE, France, 29 Sept. 2008. Officials at e2v announced the launch of a new family of 10-bit analog-to-digital data converters (ADCs).

The EV10AS150 devices are suited to demanding receiver applications operating in high intermediate frequency (IF) zones, such as direct-RF sampling, telecom test instrumentation, digitizer systems, automatic test equipment, wideband satellite receivers, and high-speed data storage, e2v officials say.

The devices sample at 2.5 giga-samples per second (Gsps) in 1st and 2nd Nyquist zones, coupled with a 25 percent increase in analog input bandwidth. This performance is achieved using e2v's monolithic data converter design technology, which integrates bipolar silicon technology B7HF200 from Infineon.
The series also has an increased full-power input analog bandwidth of 4 GHz.

The 10-bit ADC family is the first release from e2v incorporating Infineon's latest bipolar SiGeC silicon technology, featuring 200 GHz fT transit frequency, improved transistor matching, lower power consumption, TaN precision resistor, and 4-level copper interconnect. B7HF200 has operating frequencies as high as 100 GHz and above for high-speed data communication, high-speed testing, and automotive and industrial millimeter wave sensors.

The e2v devices also feature a built-in selectable ratio DMUX output, 1:2 or 1:4 for easy interface into industry standard field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), company officials say.

The company's aerospace and defense business includes products for: surveillance, targeting, and guidance; space-based imaging and astronomy; radar; electronic warfare; and broadband data converters and microprocessors for aerospace applications.
