The ITT Interconnect Solutions FRCS avionics connector system has achieved clean electrical weapon separation during the U.S. Air Force Red Flag exercises, which provide realistic combat training -- including dropping live smart bombs and dealing with electronic warfare.
The six-week Red Flag exercises are at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., and at Eielson Air Force Base Alaska. Red Flag involves realistic aerial war games to train pilots that can include simulated enemy aircraft and live ammunition for bombing at the Nevada test and training range.
The FRCS is a jam-resistant weapons interface connector for the F-16 MLU jet fighters from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway. The connector's push-to-fit design replaces the traditional screw-on connectors that can be jammed and damaged.
ITT's FRCS has been recommended for use on F-16 MIL-STD-1760 weapons. FRCS pylon umbilical assemblies are in service on Tornado IDS, Harrier GR7/9, Typhoon, A-10C Thunderbolt combat jets.
The connectors also are being certified for F-15E Strike Eagle, Gripen, AV-8B, F/A-18 Hornet combat aircraft, and on several smart several store carriage systems. For more information contact ITT online at www.itt.com.
