Rockwell Collins chooses DO-178B-compliant software from LynuxWorks for commercial aircraft avionics

SAN JOSE, Calif., 8 September 2008. Avionics designers at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are choosing the LynxOS-178 real-time, mission-critical software operating system from LynuxWorks Inc. in San Jose, Calif. for the Collins Pro Line Fusion next-generation avionics.

The Pro Line Fusion avionics provides an integrated flight deck for systems interoperability, and has high-resolution 15-inch diagonal liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that work together with head-up guidance systems, graphical flight planning, as well as synthetic and enhanced vision.

LynxOS-178 is a hard-real-time RTCA/DO-178B level-A operating system that supports the POSIX standard operating system interface and the ARINC 653 application executive. The operating system, which follows the Unix style, has recognition from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a reusable software component
