L-3 Communications forms Integrated Sensor Systems group

NEW YORK, 4 Oct. 2008. L-3 Communications announced a strategic realignment within its Sensors and Simulation Group to form the Integrated Sensor Systems business. This new group is comprised of L-3 units Brashear, Cincinnati Electronics, EO/IR Inc., Sonoma EO, SSG-Tinsley, and WESCAM. It will be led by Wesley D. Motooka, who will report to James W. Dunn. The Integrated Sensor Systems group is expected to generate approximately $800 million in annual sales.

NEW YORK, 4 Oct. 2008.L-3 Communications announced a strategic realignment within its Sensors and Simulation Group to form the Integrated Sensor Systems business. This new group is comprised of L-3 units Brashear, Cincinnati Electronics, EO/IR Inc., Sonoma EO, SSG-Tinsley, and WESCAM. It will be led by Wesley D. Motooka, who will report to James W. Dunn. The Integrated Sensor Systems group is expected to generate approximately $800 million in annual sales.

"Integrated Sensor Systems aligns L-3's electro-optical businesses to better serve our government and industrial customers, helping us to expand our position in the EO/IR marketplace and focus on internal growth within the Sensors and Simulation Group," said James W. Dunn, Sensors and Simulation Group President.

The business will provide focus on emergent ISR needs, and will facilitate integrated systems solutions to simplify and lower the cost of acquiring and supporting high performance EO/IR systems for ISR, RSTA, intelligence, and security applications. Concurrently, L-3 plans to continue to offer its state-of-the-art EO/ IR components and sensors to prime contractors and government customers, assuring the availability of affordable, high performance EO/IR solutions to its end users.

The synergies across L-3 product lines will enable the company to offer a comprehensive set of solutions and options for customers. Key elements include tactical sensor turrets, focal plane array and coolers, image processing, ground EO/IR systems, advanced optics and space telescopes. In addition, L-3 companies provide related enabling technologies including data links, image intensifiers, lasers, encryption, geo-location, and aircraft systems integration.
