Elma Electronic enhances embedded computing capability with acquisition of ACT/Technico

January 13, 2009

FREMONT, Calif., January 13, 2009. -- Electronic packaging product supplier Elma Electronic Inc. in Fremont, Calif., is acquiring embedded computing system designer ACT/Technico of Warminster, Pa.

The acquisition enhances Elma's system integration capabilities and adds a product and partner portfolio to the company. Both companies are involved in VITA-, PICMG-, and other open-systems-standards-based products. The acquisition combines Elma's system platform packaging expertise with ACT/Technico's embedded integration skills.

The acquisition provides Elma with enhanced expertise in military and aerospace, telecommunications, and medical applications, and in architectures from VME to VPX and from AdvancedTCA to MicroTCA. ACT/Technico also manufactures single-board computers, mass storage, networking, device drivers, and PCI mezzanine cards.

ACT/Technico will become part of Elma Electronic, and will continue to provide embedded, open-standards-based products and subsystem integration services for defense, semiconductor equipment, transportation, communications, medical imaging, and homeland security markets, Elma officials say.

ACT/Technico will continue to operate from its current location as a part of Elma's System Platform division, specializing in integration and board-level solutions. Elma's other product divisions include Backplanes, Enclosures & Components, Cabinet Enclosures and Rotary Switches.
