Opnext introduces red laser diode for miniature displays in mobile electronics

January 28, 2009

SAN JOSE, Calif., 28 Jan. 2009. Opnext Inc. in Eatontown, N.J. is introducing the HL6388MG laser diode for high-brightness miniature display applications such as wearable computers and mobile electronic devices.

The company made the announcement this week at the Photonics West trade show in San Jose, Calif.

The diode has strong color reproducibility because of its high monochromacity and can be built into next-generation miniature display systems, including those in wearable computers, desktop computers, mobile phones, and other mobile equipment.

"This red-laser diode can improve color reproducibility in the display of a mobile phone or other portable device," says Tadayuki Kanno, senior vice president of the Opnext device business unit.

Th 5.6-millimeter small packaged laser diode with multimodal distribution and multilasing wavelength spectrum allows for 250 milliwatts continuous wave operation for image brightness.
