WARSAW, Poland, 13 Jan. 2009. TS2 Satellite Technologies won a contract to deliver mobile BGAN services for U.S. Army soldiers stationed in Iraq.

Most soldiers deploy with a laptop in hand and a hookup to the Internet in their barracks, says a representative. Internet access has resulted in morale improvements; troops no longer feel cut off from home.

The Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite two-way (upload/download) modem is a small laptop-sized device weighing less than a kilogram (T&T Explorer 110). It ensures transfer and reception of files of any size within a satellite network from almost any place on Earth, at rates up to 492 Kbit/sec.

BGAN is well suited for foreign correspondents, soldiers, travelers, sailors, crisis management units, police, fire brigades, emergency services, and other safety services.
