GLEN BURNIE, Md., 11 Feb. 2009. U.S. Army combat vehicles experts needed a military system called a stand-off disrupter to neutralize roadside bombs from a safe distance. They found their solution from the DTI Associates subsidiary of Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc. in Glen Burnie, Md.
Kratos DTI won a $1.5 million contract from the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Command in Warren, Mich., to provide 200 stand-off disrupter military electronic systems for explosive ordnance disposal teams to disarm or disrupt unexploded ordnance from stand-off distances.
The MK-40 standoff disrupter has laser and optical aiming sights, and fires solid projectiles to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The MK-40 is a product of Chemring EOD Ltd. in Whitley, England.
