Datron World Communications Inc. in Vista, Calif. -- the company in charge of providing military communications equipment to the Afghanistan army -- won a $25.4 million U.S. Army sole-source contract March 27 to provide VHF military tactical radio communications equipment for foreign military sales.
FORT MONMOUTH, N.J., 3 April 2009. Datron World Communications Inc. in Vista, Calif. -- the company in charge of providing military communications equipment for Afghanistan army communications -- won a $25.4 million U.S. Army sole-source contract March 27 to provide VHF military tactical radio communications equipment for foreign military sales.
Datron, which is capable of providing Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS)-like software defined radio technology, is providing two kinds of VHF tactical radios to the Afghan army -- PRC-1077 man-pack VHF radio and the PRC-1070 VHF hand-held radio.
The company also is providing the Afghan army with the RT-7000 long-range HF radio and the PRC-1099 man-portable HF radio. The company's JTRS radio-like product is the RT-7700 IP-addressable, digital HF radio transceiver that combines DSP-IF circuitry and microprocessors for voice and data communications.
The company's latest contract from the U.S. Army, announced Thursday, is from the Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, N.J. The contract includes spare parts and installation kits for foreign military sales case.
Work on this sole-source contract will be at Datron's factory in Vista, Calif., and should be finished by early 2014. The contract number is W15P7T-09-D-D212.
Datron officials say they provide government, military, and industrial radios in more than 100 countries. The company's radio products also include the HH-7700 VHF tactical radio; a family of hand-held VHF squad radios that in addition to the PRC-1070 includes the PRC-1060 and PRC-1080; and the SpectreV family of tactical radios.
