Engineers at Northrop Grumman in Reston, Va., working on the U.S. Department of Defense's Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) III contract sought to partner with a provider of active RFID solutions, such as integrated sensor and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technologies. They found such a partner in Evigia Systems Inc. of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Northrop Grumman officials have issued purchase orders for an ISO 18000-7 hardware product set from Evigia. The company's active RFID products will be integrated into hardware being developed by engineers at Northrop Grumman, one of four contractors selected to work on the Department of Defense's (DOD's) $429 million, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity RFID III contract.

Northrop Grumman's Information Systems division will deliver active RFID hardware products, such as tags, readers, and mobile kits; accompanying software; and engineering services for the RFID III contract, managed by the Product Manager Joint-Automatic Identification Technology (PM J-AIT) on behalf of all U.S. Armed Services. Northrop Grumman will also provide maintenance, training, and data management services, reveals a representative.
