SAIC wins $104 million contract from Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency

April 18, 2009

SAN DIEGO, 18 April 2009. Science Applications International Corp. won a prime contract from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide training support to the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). The single-award contract has a one-year base period of performance, four one-year options, and a total contract value of more than $104 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed at the CDP in Anniston, Ala.

CDP offers federal all-hazards training intended to enhance the capabilities of emergency responders, emergency management personnel, and government officials responding to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction and other hazardous materials.

It is the only federally chartered weapons of mass destruction training center, catering to emergency responders from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories, reveals a company official.

Under the contract, SAIC will design and develop emergency responder curriculum, and provide qualified instructors to teach each course. SAIC will also manage training logistics, administrative support, sustainment activities, and cost data analysis.

"In the past 10 years, through the CDP, SAIC has trained more than 500,000 emergency responders from state, local, federal, and tribal governments, foreign governments, and private entities," says John Ferriter, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
