GE Fanuc offers A-D PMC for software defined radio and other military communications

May 19, 2009

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 19 May 2009. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the ICS-1556B 4-channel 400MHz 14-bit A-D converter PCI mezzanine card (PMC) for demanding military communications applications such as software defined radio, signals intelligence (SIGINT), digital receivers, and real-time tactical communications.

The ICS-1556B sampling rate of 400MHz, 14-bit resolution, and on-board signal processing enables simplification of VHF and some UHF radios by bringing the ability to digitize these spectra directly. The card also can help eliminate intermediate analog down conversion stages.

In particular, the ICS-1556B enables the potential interoperating software defined radio (SDR) with the new radio systems used by international military forces, and public safety groups such as police, and fire fighters.

The ICS-1556B also includes an on-board Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T FPGA to allow users to develop their own front end signal processing functionality and execute it at high speed on the board.
