Navy seeks applications software for military data fusion aboard attack submarines

May 10, 2009

WASHINGTON, 10 May 2009. U.S. Navy submarine technology designers needed software development expertise to develop experimental applications software for real-time military data fusion aboard Virginia-class fast attack submarines and other Navy vessels. The found their solution from 3 Phoenix Inc. in Fairfax, Va.

Scientists at 3 Phoenix are developing advanced military software algorithms and data fusion applications software, and a visualization interface for environmental research data Virginia-class attack submarines and other vessels as part of the Navy's Open Architecture and Network Centric Operations Warfare systems.

Company experts are doing the work under terms of a $10.1 million small business innovative research (SBIR) phase-3 contract awarded on 8 May from Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington. The contract follows Navy SBIR phase-1 and -2 contracts for similar work awarded in 1986 and 1987.

These research contracts involve relatively low-power electronics, advanced algorithm design, and real-time data fusion technologies, as well as commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, and integration of hardware and military software.
