Swissbit unveils rugged solid-state drives

May 9, 2009

BRONSCHHOFEN, Switzerland, 9 May 2009. Swissbit has unveiled its P-100 and X-100 series of 2.5-inch solid-state drive (SSD) hard drives. These rugged SSDs support Serial ATA (sATA) and Parallel (pATA) interfaces. Because they have no moving parts, vibration and shock tolerance is extended significantly, making them well suited to mobile applications in which durability and reliability are crucial.

No moving parts also remove the mechanical latencies found in traditional hard disk drives, directly translating into faster start up times and low read and write latency times.

Temperature ranges are extended and mean time between failure (MTBF) is improved many times compared with traditional HDDs, resulting in a longer operational life of the drive. Both the P-100 SSD and X-100 SSD have a performance level of up to 45MB/second, protect against Power Failure, have Life Time Monitoring API available, and offer S.M.A.R.T. support.

The new SSDs are available in both industrial and commercial temperature grades as well as capacities from 2GB to 32GB.
