Computer board technology from GE Fanuc to employ Freescale QorIQ embedded processor

June 25, 2009

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 25 June 2009. Embedded computer specialist GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is developing computer circuit board products based on the Freescale QorIQ embedded processor, company officials announced today.

GE Fanuc will offer Freescale's advanced multicore QorIQ processors in forthcoming computer board products, officials say. QorIQ processors have as many as eight cores for maximum performance, and enable GE Fanuc to develop military embedded platforms that will be form-, fit- and function compatible with their predecessors.

Specifically, QorIQ technology will be part of GE Fanuc's VME-based, 3U VITA 46 VPX-based, 6U VPX-based and 3U CompactPCI-based families of single board computer products. Support for both the eight core P4080 QorIQ processor and the dual core P2020 processor is also planned. All products based on QorIQ technology will be available in five ruggedization levels --including full conduction cooling over the -40 to 85 degrees Celsius range.
