ITT's Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare System accepted by U.S. Air Force

July 23, 2009

CLIFTON, N.J., 23 July 2009. ITT Corp. executives have announced that its Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare System (AIDEWS), an integrated radar warning and jamming countermeasure system, has completed the Design Verification Test (DVT) and been accepted into the final Operational Flight Program by the U.S. Air Force.

The hardware development was previously completed. AIDEWS systems have been delivered on aircraft to multiple F-16 international customers since 2005, with an initial software version designed for pilot familiarization and training.

This final software version is being released by the U.S. Air Force in preparation for retrofit installs for the existing F-16 international customers starting in early 2010.

"This milestone resulted from a committed partnership between ITT, Robins AFB, Eglin AFB, and the F-16 Systems Group. The result is an integrated EW system that will bring world class EW protection to our international partners flying F-16s," says Chris Bernhardt, ITT's Electronic Systems president.

Developed and produced by ITT's Electronic Systems, AIDEWS is an integrated radar warning and jamming countermeasure system providing fighter pilots with superior situation awareness and protection against radar-based threats, including modern surface-to-air and air-to-air weapon systems, reveals an official. AIDEWS is currently in full production with more than 150 systems under contract for five nations as part of the US government's F-16 Foreign Military Sales program. To date, more than 90 systems have been delivered.

AIDEWS is built upon the proven ALQ-211 family of electronic warfare systems now being used to support numerous U.S. and allied defense customers.
