Military radio communications contract for SINCGARS goes to ITT

FORT WAYNE, Ind., 19 July 2009. The ITT Corp. Communications Systems segment in Fort Wayne, Ind., will provide about 5,800 SINCGARS military radio systems to the U.S. Army to give Army radio capability to brigade combat teams and tactical vehicles over the next several years.

ITT will do the military communications work under terms of the SINCGARS Baseline Systems, System Enhancement, and Logistics Support contract from the Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J. The tactical radio SINCGARS is the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System.

This military radio communications contract calls for ITT to modernize SINCGARS to include improved security and networking. ITT teamed with Thales Communications Inc., of Clarksburg, Md., to offer an enhanced version of SINCGARS, the 1523G system.

SINCGARS is the Army's workhorse tactical voice communications radio system supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 475,000 radios have been provided to the Army since 1989.
