Cubic to showcase data links for UAVs at AUVSI

August 10, 2009

WASHINGTON, 10 Aug. 2009 Cubic Defense Applications in San Diego will showcase a range of common data link (CDL) systems for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations during the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) conference this week in Washington, D.C.

Cubic's off-the-shelf, compact, non-proprietary data links are fully interoperable with the CDL waveforms mandated for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) operations.

Products that will be highlighted in Cubic's Booth 1217 at the show include:

-- the Fire Scout Tactical CDL, which is Cubic's CDL for the U.S. Navy's MQ-8B Fire Scout provides provided streaming video and range performance during a recent sea trial involving the frigate USS McInerney;

-- the United Kingdom WATCHKEEPER, which is Cubic's high-speed TCDL that serves as the wireless connection for transferring data and images from multiple aircraft to ground stations from the United Kingdom's WATCHKEEPER Hermes 450 unmanned aerial vehicle; and

-- the Miniature CDL, a compact, affordable miniature Common Data Link product that is suitable for smaller unmanned vehicles such as the Killer Bee aircraft and lightweight portable ground stations.

The Miniature CDL's spectrally efficient waveform enables more than twice as many users in a geographic area to operate without interference than a conventional CDL, Cubic officials say.
