MIDDLETON, Wis., 17 Aug. 2009 Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) released their latest single-board computer – the 6U XCalibur1331, a high-performance, conduction-cooled or air-cooled, that uses Freescale Semiconductor's dual-core MPC8640D processor.
The XCalibur1331 is targeted at ruggedized military systems requiring high bandwidth processing and low power consumption. The 8640D delivers enhanced performance with AltiVec technology and IEEE dual-precision floating point.
XCalibur1331 features include:
- Freescale MPC 8640D processor with dual PowerPC e600 cores as fast as 1.25 GHz;
- as many as 4 gigabytes of NAND flash and 256 MB of NOR flash, with redundancy;
- two PrPMC/XMC slots;
- four Gigabit Ethernet ports; and
- three USB 2.0 ports.
"XCalibur1331 is a wonderful platform for military, industrial, and communication customers targeting high end PowerPC processors, says Bret Farnum, vice president of sales and marketing at Extreme Engineering. "The 8640D provides a natural progression and upgrade path from earlier AltiVec enabled processors like 7447A and 7448. The 8640 gives customers a perfect balance of performance, power and price."
XCalibur1331 is shipping today; depending on ruggedization level, memory configuration, and quantity purchased pricing may vary; company officials say.
