Lucid Dimensions wins two Missile Defense Agency Phase I Small Business Innovative Research contracts

August 19, 2009

LOUISVILLE, Colo., 19 Aug. 2009. Lucid Dimensions Inc., maker of 3D threat detection and tracking solutions, won two Missile Defense Agency Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Program contracts. The programs will continue development of LUCID's SDS technology to provide critical capabilities for the United States' Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).

The objective of these programs is to design Spherical Detection Systems (SDS) for airborne and space-based platforms. LUCID will apply its SDS technology to enhance 3D situation awareness for tracking IR threats. The SDS will provide high-speed detection into the KHz. Targets will be tracked simultaneously in real-time allowing for precision 3D pointing of auxiliary imaging and countermeasure systems.

Ryan Riel, president and CTO of LUCID, states, "We are very excited to be working with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in developing sensor systems to protect the US from ballistic missile threats. Our work with Spherical Detection allows for comprehensive situational awareness and provides many benefits to existing technologies in the battle space. Recent experience applying SDS technologies for perimeter security and hostile fire detection provides an excellent basis to develop next generation airborne and space-based sensing systems for missile defense."

Adam Calihman, CEO of LUCID, states, "These awards are strategic for the United States and LUCID as the technological gains can be applied to numerous other applications such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), Hostile Fire Detection, perimeter security, collision avoidance, virtual reality, and other systems utilized in the military and private sectors."
