UAV data link payload for electronic warfare environments to be unveiled by Elisra

August 4, 2009

BENEI BERAK, Israel, 4 Aug. 2009. Elisra in Benei Berak, Israel is showcasing its avionics data link technology for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) next week at the AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America 2009 conference and exhibition in Washington.

Elisra will show its C-band Starlink and ADLS-2 UAV data link technology. The C-band Starlink unmanned vehicle digital data link is for tactical UAVs, and delivers secure UAV payload video images in real time to field commanders, infantry soldiers, and special operations forces, providing them with reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities.

Immune to electronic warfare jamming and interference, the C-band Starlink employs a time division duplexing (TDD) method that produces spectral efficiency (4 MHz per channel), operating in single frequency or frequency hopping modes with uplink and downlink traffic sharing the same frequency for efficient bandwidth use. Based on COTS technology, this latest-generation data link system operates at ranges as far as 60 miles.

The Advanced Data Link System (ADLS-2) is the company's latest wireless communications system for medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) UAVs, and transmits video and audio data, from five different UAV payloads and 24 IP outputs, simultaneously.

ADLS-2 consists of an airborne segment -- the Air Data Terminal (ADT) -- and a ground segment -- the Ground Data Terminal (GDT). The compartmentalized ground units receive UAV data and distribute it to their respective addressees. The GDT constitutes an part of the Ground Control Station (GCS), where personnel control the UAV and conduct two-way communications according to mission parameters.
