Fidelity Technologies Corp. refurbishes NAVAIR flight simulation motion system

READING, Pa., 19 Sept. 2009. Fidelity Technologies Corp. (Fidelity) of Reading, Pa., has refurbished the 2F141, MH-53E flight simulator motion system at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va.

The simulator is for the MH-53E helicopter and used primarily for Airborne Mine Counter-Measures, as well as missions of vertical shipboard delivery and assault support.

"This project really shows what you can do when you put a team together of the best people," says Paul L. Patterson, program manager for Fidelity. "The Navy wanted a complete top-quality refurbishment of the MH-53E simulator's motion system and they wanted it completed in six weeks. That was done with time to spare. Mission accomplished!"

After a detailed selection process, Fidelity chose two subcontractors to support the detailed project. Servo Kinetics Inc. (SKI) of Ann Arbor, Mi., refurbished the motion actuators and mounting components.

Binghamton Simulator Company (BSC) of Binghamton, N.Y., managed the removal, shipping, and reinstallation of the actuators and mounting systems. The firm also performed hydraulic system hose replacement, maintenance, and the final acceptance tests for the Navy.

"Servo Kinetics Inc. was selected because of its extensive experience, its high level of simulator motion systems expertise and technical capability and the consistent high quality of its work," Patterson says. "As part of the project, the actuators and mounting components had to be refurbished within 30 days to meet NAVAIR requirements. There was no room for mistakes or delays."

Patterson says BSC was selected because the company specializes in simulator relocations, upgrades, and logistics. In addition, the company has a long history and unique knowledge of Singer Link simulators because many of the BSC staff members are former engineers, managers, and technical staff from the original Link Flight Simulation Division of the Singer Company.
