MEN Micro offers new P507 PMC with four UART interfaces providing fast serial data transfer

September 28, 2009

AMBLER, Pa., 28 Sept. 2009. MEN Micro Inc., released a new P507 rugged PMC that offers fast serial data transfer via four software-configurable RS422/485 UART interfaces supporting full (RS422) and half duplex (RS485) operation.

Each channel on the new PMC features an independent 500 V isolation enabling the 32 bit/33 MHz P507 to supply data rates of up to 921,600 bits per second. The UART interfaces also provide a 60-byte transmit/receive buffer. All ports are available on a shielded 50-pin D-sub front panel connector.

Qualified for an extended temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius and prepared for coating against dust and humidity, the new P507 is especially useful in safety-critical and mobile applications. The P507 can be used on all PMC-compliant host carrier boards in any type of bus system independent of the application, such as CompactPCI, VME, or on any stand-alone single-board computer in telecommunication, industrial, medical, transportation, and aerospace applications.

The new PMC offers 32 MB of soldered SDRAM DDR2 memory and a 132 MHz memory bus frequency. 2 MB of FPGA-controlled non-volatile Flash memory is included for FPGA data and NIOS firmware.

As an expansion to MEN Micro's USM (Universal Submodule) concept, the P507 incorporates its FPGA on the main PMC, with line drivers implemented on a submodule-the USM-that simply plugs into the P507. The PMC's UART functionality is carried out inside the onboard FPGA, which is easily modified by employing new IP cores to meet customers' exact requirements.

Relative humidity for operation and storage is a maximum of 95 percent non-condensing. Fully soldered connections provide performance rated to withstand 15 g/11 ms for shock, 10 g/16 ms for bump, and 1 g/10 Hz

The PMC can also be equipped with its own intelligence via a Nios softcore. This provides long-term availability of at least 10 years to guarantee flexibility and reduce obsolescence in users' projects.

Pricing for the P507 PMC is $703.
