PMC/XMC computer board in VXS form factor offered by Concurrent for military embedded systems

COLCHESTER, England, 6 Sept. 2009. Concurrent Technologies Plc in Colchester, England, is introducing the VX 541/06x single-slot VITA 41 VXS computer board with on-board PMC and XMC capability defense, security, telemetry, industrial control, scientific, and aerospace applications.

The 6U VXS computer boards are part of Concurrent's VME/VXS critical embedded product based on the low-power dual core Intel Core2 Duo processor operating at 2.26 GHz or 1.86 GHz. The single board computer supports as much as eight gigabytes soldered DDR3-1066 SDRAM, as well as dual DVI-I graphics via the front panel and dual DVI-D graphics via the rear panel.

The VXS switched serial standard -- VITA 41.3 -- is optionally supported to provide fast data transfer between other compatible boards in the system. Commercial- and extended-temperature versions are available and a rugged computer, air-cooled (to VITA 47) version will be available soon, company officials say.

This combination of high performance data processing and a wealth of I/O ensure the boards are for intensive low power computing applications within the defense, security, telemetry, industrial control, scientific, and aerospace markets.

The processor uses Intel's 45-nanometer process technology, and offers six megabytes of on-die cache, 1066 MHz Front Side Bus, Intel Virtualization, Intel 64 Technology, improved power management, plus features and enhancements to the Intel Core microarchitecture delivering increased instructions per clock.

The Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 45-nanometer 2.26 GHz dual core processor is 25 Watts. The Intel GS45 Graphics Memory Controller Hub and Intel ICH9M-E IO Controller Hub complement the processor to achieve a low power, yet high performance core design. The board supports Linux, Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, LynxOS, Solaris, QNX, and VxWorks.
