SAIC wins $49 million order from U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center

September 29, 2009

SAN DIEGO, 29 Sept. 2009. Science Applications International Corp. won a delivery order by the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) to provide technical analysis and risk assessments in support of SMC's Independent Readiness Review Team (IRRT). The delivery order has a one-year base period of performance, four one-year options, and a total value of more than $49 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in El Segundo, Calif.

SMC, a key component of the Air Force Space Command, is the center of technical excellence for researching, developing and purchasing military space systems. The center is responsible for on-orbit, check-out testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other Department of Defense space systems. SMC's Independent Readiness Review Team (IRRT) performs risk assessment of space launch missions and reports findings in pre-launch reviews to SMC Leadership. Under the delivery order, SAIC will help SMC's IRRT assess space system readiness and risks associated with software, avionics, propulsion/ordnance, and structural mechanical areas.

"We look forward to continuing our support of the IRRT as they work to ensure SMC mission success by identifying potential technical and safety issues and recommending mitigation approaches that lower flight risk," said Tony Moraco, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
