U.S. Army invests $8.2 million in TCS SNAP deployable satellite systems

ANNAPOLIS, Md., 9 Sept. 2009. TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TCS), a provider of mission-critical wireless communications, won $8.2 million in funding from the U.S. Army to provide additional Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) and Non-secure Internet Protocol Router (NIPR) Access Point (SNAP) Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite systems.

The new satellite systems will support ongoing operations of the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan (CSTC-A), the U.S. Army Pacific (USAPAC) theater, and the 7th Civil Support Command (CSC).

The award is part of a U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command (CECOM LCMC) order announced in August 2008, with a potential value of $232 million, and brings TCS SNAP funding to date to just over $64 million.

This twelfth increment of SNAP funding for TCS' SwiftLink deployable communications products. The U.S. Army Project Manager for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (PM WIN-T) Commercial Satellite Terminal Program (CSTP) is funding these procurements through the Army's $5 billion World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract vehicle.

The SNAP program includes options for roughly 1,500 terminals, as well as supporting equipment and up to 30 field support personnel.

The TCS SwiftLink VSAT systems provide multimedia (encrypted voice, video, and data) communications capabilities. TCS SwiftLink products are transportable and rugged systems offering modularity and "plug and play" interfaces between all RF and Baseband configurations inherent in the SwiftLink product line.
