BEIJING, 15 Nov 2009. GE Aviation Systems in Grand Rapids, Mich., is forming a joint-venture commercial aviation avionics company with Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC) in Beijing to offer integrated, open-architecture avionics and services for future commercial aircraft.

The joint-venture company's first priority is to compete for the integrated avionics for the future Chinese COMAC C919, a proposed 168-to-190 seat narrow-body airliner to be built Commercial Aircraft Corp. (COMAC) in Beijing, says Lorraine Bolsinger, president and chief executive officer of GE's Aviation Systems business.

GE brings its avionics capabilities, as well as its China Technology Center in Shanghai, China, to the joint venture to help create an avionics technology center of excellence for commercial aviation.

"The new company combines GE and AVIC capabilities to develop commercial integrated systems to meet aviation's growing demands," says Jeff Immelt, chairman and chief executive officer of GE Aviation. "AVIC and GE will work together to build on the most advanced open architecture avionics in the world for the commercial aviation industry," says AVIC President Lin Zuoming.
