TEWKSBURY, Mass., 13 Nov. 2009. Raytheon Company won a $197 million U.S. Navy contract for life-cycle engineering and support of the LPD 17 class, the Navy's next generation of amphibious warfare ships.

Raytheon, a member of the LPD alliance, is the total ship electronics systems integrator for the LPD 17 class, as well as the prime contractor for life-cycle engineering and support. The company provides the Shipboard Wide Area Network, integrated product data environment, total ship information management, and integrated ship electronics architecture for the LPD 17 class.

"With this award, Raytheon will continue to build on our past performance of expertly delivering critical ship systems support to ensure mission success for our Navy customer," says Dan Smith, president of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). "We are committed to providing the U.S. Navy fleet with the technology, capabilities and support that it can count on to achieve its mission objectives with confidence now and in the future."

The contract includes five options for a total of five years of support. It extends IDS' role as the ship's prime provider of life-cycle engineering and support, originally awarded in 2005.

Raytheon's work on the LPD 17 program is performed at the Expeditionary Warfare Center, San Diego, Calif.; at the Seapower Capability Center, Portsmouth, R.I.; and by Raytheon Technical Services Company, New Orleans, La., and San Diego.
