Farnborough Report 2010 P

  • July 23, 2010 -- Last-minute deals at Farnborough bring total passenger aircraft sales at the show to about 835
FARNBOROUGH, England, 23 July 2010. A few last-minute commercial passenger aircraft sales waited until the last minute to be announced Friday at the Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, England. As of noon local time at Farnborough Friday, 14 more passenger aircraft were ordered since the last report, which by rough count brings the total number of commercial aircraft sold during the show to 835. On Friday French carrier Air Austral ordered two Boeing 777-200LR widebody jetliners for delivery in mid-2011 and 2010. Air Austral already operates three 777-200ERs and two 777-300ERs. This deal brings total sales of widebody passenger jets at Farnborough to about 80.
  • July 21, 2010 -- Boeing 787 Dreamliner: has there ever been an airplane more over-hyped than this?
THE FARNBOROUGH BLOG, 21 July 2010. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was supposed to create the biggest buzz here at the Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, England. It flew in Sunday to great fanfare, and then flew out again halfway through Tuesday, leaving 3 1/3 days of one of the largest air shows in the world 787-less. Okay, I know this airplane is important. It's made of composites for fuel economy and range; has cabin environmental controls that promise to make long-haul passenger flights merely miserable, rather than horrible; it has very nice windows that darken on command; it's a lean, mean, green, environmental machine.
  • July 8, 2010 -- Look for Farnborough to host major widebody aircraft sales to Emirates and Qatar Airways as Middle East seeks to becomes world hub
FARNBOROUGH, England, 8 July 2010. The Farnborough International Airshow this month should see large-scale orders from Emirates and Qatar Airways as the two major international airlines seek to establish themselves as the predominant cargo and passenger carriers in the Middle East, which is becoming a global commerce hub. Emirates ordered 32 Airbus A380 super-jumbo jets at the ILA Berlin Air Show last month to increase its A380 fleet to 90 aircraft. Such an announcement was unusual at the low-profile event, and could set the stage for even more high-profile aircraft and jet engine orders from Emirates this month at Farnborough.
  • July 20, 2010 -- Farnborough: First-day sales of 212 commercial jetliners may mean commercial aerospace is back on track
FARNBOROUGH, England, 20 July 2010. The first day of the Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, England, saw a flurry of passenger aircraft-buying activity, as four major commercial aircraft manufacturers announced purchases of 214 commercial jetliners -- 41 of them widebodies. Boeing and Airbus sold 207 of those aircraft at Farnborough Monday, which more than doubles their purchases at the Paris Air Show one year ago. Paris and Farnborough stage air shows on alternating years, and are two of the largest air shows in the world, which often see major aircraft purchases.
  • July 26, 2010 -- World regional passenger aircraft sales to increase by nearly 5 percent each year through 2029, Embraer predicts
FARNBOROUGH, England, 26 July 2010. World sales of commercial regional passenger aircraft with 30 to 120 seats will total 6,875 over the next two decades, led by North America with 2,400; Europe with 1,510; and China with 950, says Brazilian commercial aircraft manufacturer Embraer in its latest market forecast. This would represent a 4.9 percent annual increase in world regional aircraft sales through 2029. Embraer released the forecast last week at the Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, England.
