PATUXENT RIVER NAS, Md., 5 Feb. 2010. U.S. Navy officials are surveying industry for manufacturers of a potential future multifunction data link radio buy. Details of this tactical radio project are in a request for information (RFI) issued Thursday by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md.

The future Navy data link radio communications system would be required to perform Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) UHF (225 to 400 MHz) data link receive and transmit functions; receive the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)/Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) VHF Data Broadcast (VDB); and receive the land-based JPALS 25 KHz UHF data link.

In addition, the military radio would be required to meet the environmental requirements for 2,500 mean flight hours between removal in the F/A-18 jet fighter-bomber's right leading edge extension avionics bay with or without a shock mount, as well as in the ARC-210 mounting location in the MH-60R/S anti-submarine warfare helicopter.

The tactical radio would need embedded, programmable cryptography; ARC-210 Gen V legacy cryptographic and frequency hopping algorithms; control via the MIL-STD-1553 avionics data bus, Ethernet, or other common avionics data buses; comply with MIL-STD-704A through 704F; receive the Link-4/4A data link; and meet ARC-210 Gen V radio environmental and TEMPEST requirements.

Companies interested in participating should provide technical information and cost data. To be considered, companies must respond to NAVAIR no later than 8 March 2010. The federal solicitation number is N00019-10-P7-PMA04.

For questions or concerns, contact NAVAIR's Robert Wolfe by phone at 301-757-5916, or by e-mail to robert.wolfe@navy.mil.
