AMBLER, Pa., 4 Feb. 2010. MEN Micro Inc. in Ambler, Pa., is introducing a 3U CompactPCI single board computer called the F11S that combines the Intel Atom XL processor with an onboard FPGA for user-defined functions.
The rugged F11S computer board is for embedded computing in harsh environments in aerospace, defense, transportation, and industrial applications such as automatic train control and infotainment systems that require operation in extended temperatures.
The CPU board can be equipped with various 45-nanometer Intel Atom XL processors, which offer a maximum power dissipation of 7 Watts at speeds as fast as 1.6 GHz. The board's heat sink enables operation across an extended temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
The rugged board has standard front I/O includes a COM interface via a D-Sub connector as well as two USB 2.0 ports, graphics via VGA or UXGA, and a PS/2 interface for a keyboard or a mouse. Further interfaces include a Gigabit Ethernet slot via PCI Express x1 and an FPGA-based Fast Ethernet slot on the RJ45 connectors.
The onboard FPGA also allows for serial interfaces, CAN bus, binary I/O, protocol converters or touch controllers. The F11S can accommodate as many as three SA-Adapters for additional I/O. The card occupies two or three system slots.
The board has as much as to 2 gigabytes soldered DDR2 SDRAM, 2 megabytes of non-volatile SRAM, a CompactFlash card, microSD card slot, and 512 kilobytes of L2 cache integrated in the processor. A board management controller supervises temperature and power.
The F11S is available as conduction- or convection-cooled and supports a Windows or Linux operating system, with VxWorks and QNX available on request. For more information contact MEN Micro online at www.men.de.
