WASHINGTON, 23 March 2010. Psion Teklogix Inc., a global provider of mobile computing solutions, won from the Department of Defense (DOD) an order for more than 1,600 additional units of the company's ruggedized mobile computers.

Building on its 20-year relationship with the DOD, Psion Teklogix will supply devices for use by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS).

This additional acquisition will bring the total number of Psion Teklogix devices being used by the DOD to more than 8,000 units around the world. As part of the award, Psion Teklogix will provide extended warranties for its products to both the DLA and DLIS for a minimum of five years.

The Defense Logistics Agency provides worldwide logistics support to the military services as well as several civilian agencies and foreign countries. DLA has ordered additional Psion Teklogix 7535G2 handheld computers, 8525G2 vehicle-mount computers, and 9160G2 access points, along with a number of accessories for use in its 26 depot locations worldwide.

Psion Teklogix devices are used by the DLA to track the shipping and receiving of everything from bullets to bandages throughout the world in peace and wartime. In addition to this hardware purchase, Psion Teklogix also works with the DLA to upgrade its wireless infrastructure to ensure compliance with DOD security requirements.

"We began working with the DLA in 1990, and since that initial order we have worked with them to provide staging, installation, maintenance, and repair of our products for more than two decades," says Ron Caines, president of worldwide sales at Psion Teklogix. "The ruggedness of our devices is critical as they are used by the DOD in a variety of conditions such as tracking vehicles, warehousing operations, safety, and security."

As a GSA certified vendor, Psion Teklogix is also supplying 7535G2 handheld computers to the DLIS, the premier provider of DOD supply chain data and logistics information technology solutions. DLIS will use the devices in more than 120 of its locations to scan and process assets for an updated program in the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office's (DRMO) created to help the government reutilize and redistribute everything from helicopters to canteens.
