Barco announced that its thin lightweight (TL) display series qualifies for electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) compliance (in accordance with IEC61174). The high-quality TL series can be used to display electronic navigation charts as part of an ECDIS system -- enabling the device for military applications with critical space and weight requirements.ECDIS is a computer-based navigation information system that complies with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations. Compliance with ECDIS ensures that there is no chance that the navigation chart is misinterpreted due to incorrect colors, Barco officials say.The TL series is Barco's line of thin lightweight displays, which feature active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) technology to provide brightness, contrast, and viewing angle performance. With panel sizes ranging from 19 to 24 inches, and resolutions ranging from SXGA to WUXGA, Barco's TL series offers a solution for a large number of military visualization needs, company officials say."The fact that our TL series qualifies for ECDIS compliance extensively broadens the application area of these displays," says Reggy Mortier, Barco's Market Unit Director Defense & Avionics. "It underlines the exceptional quality of our displays for military applications. Combining a high level of performance and versatility with a very competitive price/performance value, the TL series is clearly the best choice for critical military applications."
