  • April 2, 2011 -- PikeOS RTOS integrated with debugger tools from Lauterbach
MAINZ, Germany, 2 April 2011. Lauterbach's TRACE32 Debugger tools are now integrated with the PikeOS real-time-operating system from SYSGO. PikeOS is based on the SSV (Safe $ Secure Virtualization) technology, which is certifiable according to safety standards such as DO178-B, IEC61508, EN 50128, and ISO26262.
  • May 3, 2011 -- Requirements to object-code traceability tool for avionics software released by LDRA
SAN JOSE, Calif., 3 May 2011. New tool suite from LDRA in San Bruno, Calif., offers requirements-to-object–code traceability for avionics and medical applications. The tool ensures that verification problems found at the object-code level can be quickly traced to the originating source code and requirements levels. LDRA is showcasing the tool at their booth (#838) at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC), being held this week at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif.
  • May 4, 2011 -- BittWare Anemone processor could make FPGAs as popular as general-purpose processors in embedded computing
The Mil & Aero Blog -- One of the biggest raps against field-programmable gate arrays for digital signal processing is the complexity of the FPGA. To use these powerful-but-frustrating devices, systems designers must be adept in the arcane VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL), as well as in hand-coding to achieve the most efficient performance. Using FPGAs is like a throwback to the old days of programming ASICs in assembly language to squeeze out the most performance possible. Much of the reluctance to use FPGAs in DSP applications may be changing, however, with the introduction today of the FPGA/Anemone architecture from BittWare Inc. in Concord, N.H. • June 17, 2011 -- Boeing 787 avionics overview
SEATTLE, 17 June 2011. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner -- one of the most promoted and hyped aircraft in the history of aviation -- will be on display at the Paris Air Show June 20 to 24, and the new passenger jet's advanced avionics and fight deck will be one of the show's major attractions. The 787 should be in operation before the year is out with its launch operator, All Nippon Airlines (ANA), having completed flight training and final validation of the aircraft. Here is a refresher on what is in the cockpit of Boeing's newest jet.
  • August 9, 2011 -- Rad-hard satellite embedded computer from Aitech performs maintenance-free for two years on orbit
CHATSWORTH, Calif., 9 Aug. 2011. A radiation-hardened avionics card set from Aitech Defense Systems Inc. in Chatsworth, Calif., has completed two years of maintenance-free operation in orbit aboard the U.S. Air Fore TacSat-3 military reconnaissance satellite that provides real-time data to military commanders in the field. The Aitech rad-hard embedded computing cards are part of TacSat-3's standard satellite bus from the Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK) Aerospace Systems segment in Magna, Utah.

Evolution of the American soldier

The American soldier has come a long way since the beginning of the Republic 237 years ago. While uniforms for early soldiers were based on cost and utility, soldiers' clothing eventually considered ballistic protection, increasing storage space, protection from poison gas and other contaminants.
