  • September 7, 2011 -- Rugged PCI/104 single-board computer for military and transportation applications introduced by Advantech
MILPITAS, Calif., 7 Sept. 2011. Advantech America in Milpitas, Calif., is introducing the PCM-3363 PCI/104 rugged single-board computer for outdoor use in military and transportation embedded computing applications. The computer board uses an Intel Atom N455/D525 microprocessor, and supports 1 gigabyte of soldered DDRIII 800 MHz SDRAM solid-state memory. The N455 consumes nine Watts, while the D525 consumes 13 Watts. The PCM-3363 comes with extreme cold start and voltage dip protection, which enables the board to function in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Celsius by ensuring all components reach working temperature.
  • September 9, 2011 -- 3U CompactPCI embedded computer with Intel Core i7 or i5 processors introduced by ADLINK
TAIPEI, Taiwan, 9 Sept. 2011. ADLINK Technology Inc. in Taipei, Taiwan, is introducing the CompactPCI 3970 family of 3U CompactPCI PlusIO compatible embedded computing processor blades for industrial control and automation, transportation, and medical applications that require enhanced graphics capabilities, ECC memory, and high speed I/O interconnects. The 3970 embedded computers support high-speed serial point-to-point connections, and has quad- and dual-core 2nd Generation Intel Core i7/i5 processor with ECC memory support, and the Intel QM67 Platform Controller Hub (PCH).
  • September 13, 2011 -- Chassis-monitoring board for VPX and VME embedded computing systems introduced by Kontron
ECHING, Germany, 13 Sept. 2011. Kontron in Eching, Germany, is introducing the CMB chassis-monitoring board to help VPX and VME embedded computing systems designers streamline system monitoring and management of rugged military computing applications. The Kontron CMB helps systems integrators centralize their monitoring and management of out-of-band installed boards, as well as temperature, airflow, power supply, and other relevant system parameters. The CMB system is for mission-critical commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems with demands for reliability, availability, and ruggedness. The CMB already is deployed in a VME chassis in a satellite navigation system, Kontron officials say.
  • September 14, 2011 -- Embedded computer for situational awareness processing in military land vehicles introduced by GE
LONDON, 14 Sept. 2011. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the IPS511 rugged situational awareness processor, which is designed to provide embedded computing in ground vehicles, aircraft, unmanned vehicles, and surveillance systems that provides 360-degree situational awareness. GE made the announcement this week at the Defense Security Equipment International (DSEi) military trade show in London. The single-board computer is packaged in a rugged chassis, and offers small size, weight and power (SWaP) for deployment as an upgrade to aerospace and defense systems that must operate in demanding environments of shock, vibration, temperature extremes, and other harsh operating conditions.
